Abstract

This article offers the first critical edition of the long poem “Dolorosa métrica y expresión del sitio y entrega de La Habana”. Inspired by the English occupation of Havana in 1762, it is one of the most interesting testimonies of early Cuban poetry, written by a woman from Havana, whose identity is still under discussion, the poem throws interesting light on the literature and history not only of Cuba but of Spanish America as a whole.
