Abstract

This paper analyzes the Mateo Alemán’s allegations of plagiarism against theapocryphal continuation of Guzmán de Alfarache. Firstly, we will reviewthe topic from the point of view of the literary fiction that was developedby Alemán in the second part of his work, paying special attention to therole played by the characters of Sayavedra and Mateo Luján. Secondly, wewill analyze the illustrations of the only known copy of the first edition ofthe apocryphal Guzmán, whose unsettling relations with the Second partby Alemán raise many unknowns.
