Abstract

This work analyzes some cults stylistic devices in religious productionby Juan Espinosa Medrano (Viceroyalty of Peru, 17th century), whosework, in order to seduce audiences demanding and “groomed”, boastingof wit and scholarship, constitutes a representative sample of colonialbaroque prose. This is a review of the role of sacred oratory incolonial society that allows to understand the sermons of this authoras a search space of self-legitimation and recognition, considering thatEspinosa Medrano was part of the literate humanist elite.
