Abstract

This paper examines Pedro Calderón de la Barca´s attitude towards the practice of warfare in his time, as can be discerned in two of his comedias in which a town or village is besieged: El sitio de Bredá and Amar después de la muerte. A series of positive and negative military values which  the playwright aimed to propagate, especially with regard to pillage and the treatment of the vanquished, are deduced from contrasts and similarities between these two plays.
