Abstract
This article examines Alfonso Reyes’ work in the field of philology. Special attention is paid to the ten years he spent in Spain (1914-1924), a period during which he worked in the Centro de Estudios Históricos, in Madrid, carried out extensive research into 16th and 17th Spanish literature and also published in the Revista de Filología Española. Years later, in his role as President of El Colegio de Mexico, he helped many of his former colleagues from the Centro de Estudios Históricos to scape from Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and its consequences, and to seek refuge and work in Mexico City. He also helped to ensure that the Revista de Filología, after a brief period in Buenos Aires, where it was known as the Revista de Filología Hispánica, was finally published in El Colegio de México under the title of Nueva Revista de Filología Hispánica.Nueva Revista de Filología Hispánica (1947-), volume 66, 2, July-December 2018, is a semi-annual publication edited by El Colegio de México, Carretera Picacho Ajusco 20, Ampliación Fuentes del Pedregal, Tlalpan, C.P. 14110, Mexico City, Mexico, Tel.
