En este catálogo, Esther Hernández condensa las características más significativas de 161 vocabularios hispano-amerindios producidos entre 1550 y 1800 en la América colonial; cronológicamente, presenta una panorámica ante todo de tres aspectos relevantes de la lexicografía bilingüe colonial: la historia de los documentos, la historia de las lenguas y la técnica o el modelo lexicográfico seguidos en la confección de estos vocabularios
