Abstract
¿Tiende el léxico de la lengua española hacia la unidad o hacia la diversidad? La respuesta dependerá del sector del léxico que se investigue. Si se analiza el vocabulario dialectal y rural, en los atlas lingüísticos, por ejemplo, se observará una evidente tendencia hacia la variedad. Una menor diversidad. Una menor diversidad se hará patente si se estudia el vocabulario estándar de las grandes ciudades. Por lo contrario, la revisión de los léxicos fundamentales de las diversas regiones muestra un vocabulario bastante uniforme.
